Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2022-2026, Nicolas Greinacher, Vinous, Mar 2024

Blending 80% Marsanne with 20% Roussanne, the grapes for the 2021 Saint-Joseph Blanc Les Oliviers were harvested comparatively late at the end of September. Showcasing vivid lemon flesh, spring blossom, yellow apple and cedar, the complex aromatic profile is complemented by reductive gradations. Medium-bodied and concentrated, the 2021 shows plenty of energy. Flintstone elements enrich the layered finish. Tasted twice with consistent notes.

Full and ripe, apricot and peach fruit, creamy undertone and a savoury note that reminds me of something fibrous, almost like tree bark (which I've never used in a tasting note). Still very young, and worth waiting for. (RH)

This amazing white St.-Joseph literally smells like crushed rock! Then comes a texturally complex full-bodied palate that’s richer and creamier than the nose suggests, then, it turns back in the radical stony direction, growing in power as it does. Just doesn’t want to stop! From a clay rich soil. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

Fermented with 50% stems, the 2021 Saint Joseph Les Oliviers is another classy, impeccably made wine from this talented winemaker. Darker cherries, blackberries, peppery herbs, leather, and sappy flowers all make for a quintessential Saint Joseph. Medium-bodied and nicely balanced, with ripe tannins, it's a strong effort and will keep for a decade.
