Note di degustazione
The 2015 Gigondas Font de Tonin is a special cuvée based on 70/30 Grenache and Syrah that sees more whole cluster inclusion and aging all in barrel, 21% being new. It’s more polished and elegant than the classic cuvée, yet loses a touch of typicity. Nevertheless, it has terrific notes of black raspberries, toasted spice, hints of oak and dried garrigue in its medium to full-bodied, concentrated, balanced style. I suspect it will show much more Gigondas flair with 2-3 years of bottle age. I always think of the wines from Domaine la Bouïssière as being very traditional, yet they’re certainly not dogmatic and the wines see partial destemming as well as some new oak. Nevertheless, these wines speak clearly of Gigondas to me.

Opaque ruby. Powerful red and dark berry scents are complemented by peppery spice, incense and floral pastille notes. Sappy and densely packed on the palate, offering vivacious black raspberry, cherry liqueur and spicecake flavors energized by a core of juicy acidity. Smooth, harmonious tannins build steadily on the impressively long, seamless finish, which leaves behind lavender pastille and juicy dark berry notes.
83% Grenache, 17% Syrah. 26% destemmed. Matured for 12 months in oak, 21% new. Cask sample. Tasted blind. Dark crimson with good shading. Slightly rhubarb notes on the nose. And then it grows in the mouth to be a really very impressive fruit bomb without any obvious oak. Really quite distinguished. (JR)
