Note di degustazione
There are three Saint Joseph releases, all of which are outstanding. The 2015 Saint Joseph Mairlant (partially destemmed and aged in 2- to 4-year-old barrels) offers lots of black and blue fruits, and ample minerality in a very pretty, focused, elegant package. It has plenty of tannins and is a classic, old-school beauty to drink over the coming 10-15 years.

(made with 45 percent whole clusters and aged for 18 months in barriques , 10 percent of them new) Glass-staining ruby. Primary black and blue fruits, violet, Indian spices and licorice on the deeply perfumed nose. Sweet, concentrated blueberry and cherry liqueur flavors spread out nicely on the palate, picking up a touch of spiciness on the back half. Lush, broad and seamless in style, finishing with strong thrust and supple tannins that contribute structure and subtle grip.
55% Marsanne, 45% Roussanne. Rather strong oak imprint disguises fruit for the moment. A suggestion of gingerbread. May get there. (JR)
