Saturated magenta. An expressive bouquet evokes ripe red and blue fruits, violet, olive paste and exotic spices. Appealingly sweet and energetic on the palate, offering finely etched, mineral-accented cherry, boysenberry and floral pastille flavors that deepen through the back half. Shows impressive balance and finishes impressively long and smooth, with harmonious tannins adding framework and gentle grip.

The 2020 Saint Joseph—from a parcel in Tournon—features overt notes of cedar (it matures in demi-muids) complemented by cherry fruit and slightly herbal underpinnings. It's medium to full-bodied, open-knit and nearly ready to drink already, although it could perhaps benefit from a year or two of cellaring.
