The 2021 Saint Joseph is clearly outstanding, and it's another terrific effort from this estate. Ripe red and black fruits, peppery herbs, spice, and some chalky, mineral notes all show in the aromatics, and this beauty hits the palate with medium-bodied richness, rock-solid ripeness, and velvety tannins. Drink this classic, satisfying, balanced 2021 over the coming 7-8 years, if not a decade.

Shimmering violet color. Primary red and blue fruit aromas, along with suggestions of olive, smoked meat and cracked pepper. Offers fleshy, appealingly sweet cherry and blackberry flavors that turn spicier and firm up through the back half. Subtly chewy tannins add grip to a long, smoky finish that leaves cherry and spice notes behind.
70% Marsanne, 30% Roussanne. Fermented in stainless-steel tanks (20%) and oak barrels (80%). Malolactic conversion completed. Matured on the lees in 600-litre demi-muids (50%), 228-litre oak barrels (30%) and stainless-steel tanks (20%). Tasted blind. Very inviting nose with almond kernel, apricot, peach and mealy notes. A core of zippy freshness, bergamot and apricot and a moderate finish – plenty to enjoy here! (AC)
