2018 Saumur Champigny Les Poyeux

Les Poyeux was made famous by Clos Rougeard and Sanzay has a 55-year-old parcel that can soar, but this bottle of 2018 doesn't quite reach the heights. While elegant and intense, it has richly, ripe fruit reflecting the warmth of the vintage, I do have a question mark over the slightly drying texture and medicinal element on the finish, which detracts from the overall harmony. The 2017 is superior.
