Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2023-2033, Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate, Oct 2023

A blend of Mourvèdre and Grenache derived from vines planted on clay-limestone and stony soils in Fleury d’Aude, the 2017 La Clape L'Ancely reveals a dense, complex bouquet with aromas of spices, dark wild berries, baked plum, licorice and garrigue. Full-bodied, dense and concentrated, its deep core of fruit is underpinned by an imposing chassis of rich tannins. Demonstrative, this Mourvèdre-driven wine needs a decade to chill out.

Full bottle 1,667 g. Bottle number 2,464 but they don't say how many bottles are made, so who knows what that means… Mourvèdre. NHB. Gamey nose with a tinge of crushed tomatoes left a day too long out the fridge. Very roast-tomato sweet and savoury with the slight aniseed burn of basil. Fiery burn of alcohol up through the nose and down the back of the throat. Chocolate, oak, coffee, Biscoff, truffle, well-hung game bird. To say that this wine makes a statement is to make an understatement. Kardashian cross Bond cross passata. (TC)

NHB. Truffle and sage and eucalyptus on the nose, treacle plums on the palate. Rich and utterly, recklessly voluptuous. Deep velvet, heavy silk, billowing goose-down duvets and so deeply cushioned you could lose a body in it. Not one angle. (TC)

A fresh, vivid red from this region with dried-strawberry character, together with other berries, flowers and fresh nuts. Medium body. Fine tannins on the finish. Serious, balanced red. Drink or hold.
