I loved the forward, sexy style of the 2011 Cote Rotie Brune et Blonde, and it’s just hard to resist today. Loaded with notions of kirsch, blackberry, toasted nuts and spice, it’s medium to full-bodied, elegant, seamless and hedonistic. I’d happily drink it anytime over the coming decade.

Bright ruby. Smoky, mineral-accented cherry and dark berry scents are lifted by a suggestion of peppery spices. Juicy and penetrating on the palate, showing excellent focus and depth to its bitter cherry and blackcurrant flavors. Opens up slowly on the long, floral finish, which is firmed by dusty, fine-grained tannins. This suave wine is delicious right now but should age gracefully on its balance.
Cask samples tasted of the two major components of the wine. Blonde blend: At the time of tasting it was due to be bottled November 14! 40% new oak, of which I tasted a sample. At the moment there’s a little oak but it‘s glossy and attractive. Salty fresh. For the moment without enormous depth and without quite the lusciousness of Jamets.
