The 2009 Chambertin Grand Cru is in a beautiful place. It boasts a cornucopia of aromas on the nose. Effervescent red fruit, rose petals, freshly tilled loam and light red brick scents blossom in the glass, each vying for your attention and delineated to perfection. The palate delivers the sumptuousness of the 2009 vintage, all curves, belying the backbone behind that payload of fruit. There is now a slightly melted quality to this Chambertin, a little gourmand in style as it fans out on the finish in thrilling style. Perhaps the 2010 has the edge, but this is à point .

The 2009 Chambertin Grand Cru is relatively youthful in appearance. It has a vibrant nose with kirsch, orange sorbet, rose petals and light Earl Grey aromas. It becomes increasingly floral and complex in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with an attractive tertiary quality and a healthy white pepper dose. Very harmonious with a touch of chalkiness. I would have liked more depth, though real elegance is in situ and seems to grow in the glass. Tasted at the 2009 horizontal at Club 1243.
Bright clear and pure colour with no especial depth. The nose just has that magical sense of balance to it that Rousseau seems to achieve year in year out. Discreet, understated, fine. The harmony is there, though the fruit comes through a little bit soft, a little bit understated. Raspberry cordial finish.
The 2009 Chambertin is breathtaking in its beauty. It boasts gorgeous textural depth and richness in its eternal, endless layers of fruit. This is a totally seamless wine that captures the style of the year and the personality of the vineyard. A sweet note of cassis lingers on the finessed finish.
