2019 Abandonado

The 2019 Abandonado is a field blend from some 25 different grapes (principally Tinta Amarela, Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional and Sousão) aged for 20 months in a mixture of 50% new French and Portuguese oak. It comes in at 14.4% alcohol. A bit funky (as always, mostly), this is elegant in the mid-palate with moderate tannins. Despite the always different flavor profile, it is a very polished wine, easy to drink young but likely to age. It is a great food wine, but I would take Gaivosa this year. It may age better than indicated, but it drinks well now.
