The 2000 Pensées de Lafleur, an equal blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot, has a very attractive bouquet with blackberry, incense and iris, moving towards secondary aromas such as dried blood and a touch of orange rind. This feels very fresh in the mouth, cohesive with a savory undercurrent. This is quite foursquare for Pensées, not quite as exuberant and intense as the 2005 with a grainy, peppery finish. Tasted at the Christies’ Lafleur masterclass in London.

50% Merlot, 50% Cabernet Franc. Mid blackish ruby. Very gorgeous nose – recalls the Lafleur 2000. Very complete and gorgeous with perhaps just a little less depth and length. Lovely juicy Cabernet spine. (JR)
Tasted at Justerini & Brooks agency tasting in London. The Les Pensées de Lafleur 2000 is one that I had never tasted before. It attests to the longevity of this wine. It has a lively blackberry and black olive bouquet with a subtle ferrous tincture. It actually gains intensity in the glass and develops more red fruit characteristics. The palate is dense and powerful, a little austere perhaps, but with a convincing, burly finish and a healthy dash of black pepper on the aftertaste. If you cannot afford the 2000 Lafleur, then think about Les Pensées. Tasted February 2015.
Magnum. Very thin watery rim to this dark purplish crimson wine. Extremely winning, attractive nose and rich, well balanced palate clearly showing the class of this vintage. Plush and velvety and just the merest hint of austerity on the finish. Long. Should give enormous pleasure. Pretty mineral in character. (JR)
