The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Petite Chapelle 1er Cru surpasses its showing from barrel. It has an appealing nose with red fruit and a touch of sandalwood, perhaps without quite the same vivacity as its peers, a bit laid-back by comparison. There is some reduction here. The palate is medium-bodied with a smooth texture, black pepper and clove infusing the dark berry fruit. It's a little drier on the finish than its peers. Perhaps I would have dialed down the new oak a little, although it might merit a higher score if the fruit can assimilate the wood. Wait and see. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Petite Chapelle 1er Cru has an attractive mulberry, strawberry and rose petal scents nose that just needs a little more delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, quite strict and backward, just missing some finesse on the finish compared to the Clos Prieur.
