Decidedly ruby, almost rust colour. Very interesting, complex nose – a definite relative of Akitu A2! Such delicacy and interest. Shades of Chambolle? Manages to be both seductive and refreshing – quite a feat! (JR)

The 2020 Pinot Noir A1 is savory and meaty and leads with an amalgam of forest floor, damp leaf litter, roasted game and exotic spices. This has a profusion of leather aromas that infuse the palate, and while the evolution of a wine can be a charming thing, I feel this is a little forward for four years old. Or conversely, it is in a beautiful drinking place right now and will provide that joy for another year or so, prior to evolving further into a tertiary wine. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

More savoury and appealing than Akitu’s A2 – earthy, with lovely sour-cherry notes and a smoky finish. (FG)

It's very possible that volume 2020 of Pinot Noir A1 is its most beautiful yet. The cooler season has lent this pale Pinot Noir a delicacy alongside its supple flesh; fresh elegance alongside ripeness. There are layers of aromatics built over the long season as well as in the winery through a combination of whole berries, whole bunches and well-judged French oak. You can expect wild herbs and savory bass notes alongside black cherry fruit, chai tea and more - but four flavor descriptors is more than enough. The lasting impression is ripe yet refined with the finest of tannins lightly coating the palate and, in combination with the precise acidity, drawing out the fragrant finish. While it's already delightful and I'm already thinking about what to have it with at dinner (it's 11am); this will drink well for 6-10 years minimum.
