Punteggio 97/100 · Da bere 2020-2044, Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, Wine Advocate, Jan 2020

The 2009 J. Daniel Cuvée Cabernet Sauvignon is deep garnet colored and not shy on the nose with bold, bombastic crème de cassis, baked blueberries and boysenberries scents followed by nuances of chocolate box, cast iron pan, sandalwood, cloves and unsmoked cigars plus a touch of menthol. Full-bodied, big, concentrated and hedonic, the palate is bursting with black fruit and spicy flavors, with a rock-solid foundation of firm, grainy tannins and oodles of freshness, finishing long and layered. A totally decadent experience!

Punteggio 92+/100 · Da bere 2022-2040, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jul 2019

Bright medium ruby. Sexy, expressive, claret-like aromas of briary cassis and black raspberry, mocha, molten dark chocolate and spices, lifted by a violet topnote. Then quite penetrating on the palate and still dominated by its rather powerful spine of acidity and tannins. This wine doesn't show the creamy sweetness of the '08 but its briary black and blue fruit flavors are still wound up. An intriguing note of chocolate-covered orange peel emerged with aeration. Still quite primary, this long wine's firm, dusty tannins call for patience. I would not be at all surprised if this wine merited an even higher score in five or six years. And it should last for a long time. (16.2% alcohol; 90% new oak)
