The 2019 Erdener Prälat Auslese *** (Golden Capsule) is perfectly ripe and refined on the highly delicate and flinty nose that interweaves its fruit aromas with the utterly fine, weathered red (and gray) slate aromas of the Prälat terroir. Immaculate! Lush, piquant and highly finessed on the palate, this is a wide and generous yet fine and seriously tensioned Prälat with great balance yet also dramatic grip, vivacious acidity and mineral tension. This is not a baroque Prälat at all but vibrantly fresh and salty-piquant. It reveals very fine slate aromas and indicates a perfection selection of grapes. Titillating and just fascinating in all its energy and tension. Tasted in May 2021.
