Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2020-2040, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, Oct 2019

From a steep (up to 60% slope) and stony plot with 55- to 60-year-old vines on red slate and quartzite soils, the 2017 Frühlingsplätzchen Riesling GG opens with a super clear and spicy, flinty and herbal-scented nose of crushed stones. Rich and concentrated on the palate, this is a dense and powerful yet salty-piquant and complex dry Riesling from spectacular terroir. The 2017 is still a baby but with great terroir expression and refreshing salinity. Highly promising. Tasted from AP 18 18 in July 2019.

The nose here is effusively perfumed, and the mouth fills with flowers as well. Suggestions of greenery lend an aura of spring meadow. Nettle, black tea, lime and tart-edged, crunchy white currant emerge on the palate, conveying a slightly Ruwer-like impression. Glossiness of feel helps buffer the bright acidity. Skin-chewing and flower-chomping lend a stimulating hint of bitterness to the multi-layered, vibrantly-sustained and infectiously juicy finish. One senses here – in addition to the distinct virtues of this site – that we are dealing with fruit that hung more than a week longer than that in the Schlossböckelheimer Kupfergrube, yet was picked at significantly higher acidity.

A masterpiece of finesse with the typical wild-berry and herb character for the red-slate soil of this site. Very long, polished finish with a delicate, mineral and herbal character that extends towards the horizon. Drink or hold.

An intense herbaceous fragrance is minimally impeded by a slightly lactic expression. The cool minerality on the palate is so bracing that it almost takes the enamel off your teeth, although it would be unfair to blame this on one single wine. It simply has that Scandinavian fjord-freshness, but its crisp green tang is more herb garden than seaweed. (MS)
