The 2020 Aristargos has a well-defined nose that is very understated at first, opening to reveal light resin scents, but in need of more identifiable fruit characteristics. The palate is well balanced with a touch of bitter lemon on the entry, but – a bit like the nose – it lacks concentration and substance on the finish.
49% Chenin Blanc (some fermented and aged in concrete), 10% Roussanne, 9% skin-fermented Sémillon, 8% Marsanne, 7% Clairette Blanche, 6% Viognier, 5% Verdelho, 4% Grenache Blanc, 2% skin-fermented Colombard! Is this the wine with the most ingredients ever? At this point it is less convincing arguably than the single-vineyard Chenins but doubtless it will age beautifully. Good grip on the palate. For the moment it's a bit of a ragbag of unintegrated ingredients. Very long but unformed for now. (JR)
