Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2015-2020, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, Aug 2015

The 2011 Catena Alta Malbec is a blend of wines produced with Malbec grapes from different zones within Mendoza from their signature vineyards Angelica (Lunlunta), La Piramide (Agrelo), Nicasia (Altamira) and Adrianna (Gualtallary). It has a showy, ripe nose full of flowers and blueberries, very classic Malbec with nicely integrated oak aromas of spices. The palate is dry with fine, sweet tannins and some balsamic notes ending very fresh. Comparatively, I was more impressed with the 2011, but set side by side with the vintages of yesteryear this is a superb, austere Malbec. Some 60,000 bottles were produced.

Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2017-2026, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Feb 2015

Saturated deep ruby. Superripe aromas of blackberry and minerals. Wonderfully rich and deep, showing terrific verve to its dark berry and chocolate flavors. A step up in sweetness and sappiness from the regular Catena Malbec. Finishes chewy, broad and very long, with serious but fine tannins, a lingering note of licorice and great verve.
