Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2022-2032, Anthony Mueller, Wine Advocate, Jun 2022

The 2017 Far Side Mourvèdre begins with aromas of dried herbs, black pepper, dusty black raspberry and hints of smoke and charcuterie. Medium-bodied, the palate is tightly wound, offering both freshness of fruit and food-friendly tannins that will allow this wine to age gracefully until its 15th birthday. Concluding with a long, lingering finish, I believe I will have some challenges keeping my hands off this wine when I put it in my cellar. Bravo! Only seven barrels produced.

Punteggio 17.5/20 · Da bere 2023-2028, Tamlyn Currin, jancisrobinson.com, Sep 2021

Winemaker Sebastian Beaumont. 100% Mourvèdre, hand-picked. Spontaneous fermentation, 100% whole bunch. Gentle mixing to start and then regular punchdowns later in the fermentation. Two years in a third-fill barrel. RS 2 g/l, TA 5.9 g/l, pH 3.57. 408 bottles made. Creamy raspberry nose – not what I was expecting for a Mourvèdre! Stunningly elegant and refined for a Mourvèdre. Is this the whole bunch?! A shot-silk-shimmer spine of minerality. Rose petals. Baking spices. Such, such pretty fruit. This is electric. Dancing. Wow. Nothing like the big, meaty, hefty Mourvèdre that I so often encounter. Sebastian Beaumont must be a magician. I'd love to know how old these vines are… (TC)
