Punteggio 96/100 · Da bere 2017-2036, David Schildknecht, Vinous, Nov 2017

A meadow-like profusion of flowers and grasses is joined in the nose by pungent green tea. Infusion in fresh lime, apple and white peach on a buoyant, subtly silken palate, leads to a delicate, understated but enthralling finish in which crystalline mineral impingements accompany wafting inner-mouth florality, cooling herbal diversity and luscious fruit. For its sense of sweetly-ripe, generous fruit and its combination of delicacy with refinement, this is exceptional among Riesling Grosse Gewächse. It reflects 60-80 year old vines – the estate’s oldest (and only acquired in 2013) – a significant share of which are ungrafted.

Punteggio 96/100 · Da bere 2021-2035, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, Dec 2016

Coming from partly ungrafted vines down to 50 years, the 2015 Stromberg Riesling GG comes from the steepest and stoniest porphyry vineyards of the domaine. It opens deep, clear and flinty on the nose, with a very pure yet deep, intense and very precise Riesling aroma intermixed with stony flavors. On the palate, this is a rich, finesse-full and highly elegant Riesling with great complexity and tension. The finish is very long and intense, and the aging potential should be terrific.

Punteggio 18.5/20 · Da bere 2017-2027, Jancis Robinson MW, Aug 2016

To call one of the Schäfer-Fröhlich Grosse Gewächse conciliatory may possibly be regarded as patronising by the winemaker, but the contours of the Stromberg seem just a little more rounded than those of its stable mates. The fresh mint is not missing, but the minerality appears a little more subdued, letting a fuller body show some curves. A tasteful measure of citrus fruit and acidity is complemented by the merest of sweet notions. (MS)
