Deepest cherry red with purple rim. Charry elderberry juice that is all about the fruit and the site and not about oak. Like the Canal Uco, this is so powerful it is hard to taste at the moment. Too intense, too much vim. Needs time to relax. It's impressive in its dark, dry refinement but I am not sure this much concentration always gives the most drinking pleasure. (JH)

The 2017 Finca Piedra Infinita Gravascal is produced with fruit from a very balanced plot with some 50 centimeters of soil before reaching the stones and limestone. This half-hectare plot had very low yields, so they had to harvest it very early. The plants here are very balanced, and the wine produced has a marked herbal sensation, always combined with the stoniness. There is less difference between the 2017 and 2018 here than in the other Finca Piedra Infinita wines. This is precise, fresh and harmonious, with very fine chalky tannins and a combination of fruit, spice and minerality that make it really attractive. 1,500 bottles were filled in August 2018.

A Malbec from a selection of soils with a maximum of 40cm (16 inches) of gravel and limestone ( cal in Spanish, hence the name), in keeping with the Familia Zuccardi line. Fruity and open, displaying a profile of sour cherry and blackberry in addition to floral notes, it presents a slightly fatty palate with a firm feel somewhere on the spectrum between toned and muscular, along with well-judged acidity and juice that light up the hints of chalk. Rich and precisely layered, it is very much the sum of its complex array of parts.
