Full bottle 1,234 g. Biodynamic certification by respekt-BIODYN. Organic wine. Fahrlay is 1 ha of south-facing vines near the ferry (hence the name). Blue slate soils – very stony subsoil. Their parcel is the oldest, with centenarian vines. Picked early November, spontaneous fermentation in an old Fuder, aged 14 months therein. TA 7.4 g/l, RS 7 g/l. Beautifully scented with citrus, crushed stones and a delicate floral note that reminds me of spring and that is also somehow a little bit spicy. This is theoretically trocken but there is clearly some residual sugar to balance the acidity and it is quite noticeable, giving a roundness in the mouth and ripeness of yellow plums. Firm, fresh and long, with depth that comes from the texture as much as the full fruit. (JH)

Bottled in mid-September, the 2019 Marienburg GG Fahrlay Terrassen is deep, intense and pure on the nose that reveals a lemon-fresh bouquet of crushed stones intertwined with perfectly ripe and concentrated fruit. This is highly complex on the nose! Full-bodied, very intense and sustainable on the palate, this is an expressive terroir wine from 100-year-old vines on blue slate. Ripeness, richness and power are perfectly interwoven with the salty, crystalline and refined slate acidity, the depth and complexity of the Terrassen terroir. This is a great, persistent, powerful yet refined and structured wine that will be sold in a year but can be aged for 20 years or more. There are tonic flavors on the nose and and on the finish with aeration. A giant. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.
