The 2019 Ried Loibenberg Riesling Smaragd is beautifully clear and radiant in its lime-green color. The nose is terrific in its refreshing mineral and stunningly coolish aromas of limes and lemons, white peach and apricots and crisp paprika notes. Round and lush but refined and crystalline on the palate, this is a tight and crisp, beautifully phenolic and stimulating Riesling with super ripe and almost sweet fruit (extract) but also fine tannins and a crisp and grippy finish. Very elegant. A classic! 13.5% alcohol. Tasted at the domain in June 2021.

It’s hard to imagine a more attractive and enticing dry riesling than this cornucopia of peach, apricot and mandarin that’s so curvaceous and seductive. However, behind all this extravagance is a firm core and that’s why it doesn’t seem in any way too much. The long, elegant finish teases you gently back to the glass. Drink or hold.
