2014 Bourgueil Clos Nouveau

The 2014 Bourgueil Clos Nouveau is from a 1.2-hectare monopole that has existed since 1650. The 40-year-old vines root in argile-silex and calcareous soils in the south-facing mid-slope. Vinified in stainless steel for three weeks, then aged for three years in entirely new 500-liter barrels, the wine opens with a deep, ripe yet very fine bouquet of perfectly ripe dark fruits. It’s terribly elegant and finessed on the palate, where the fruit is generous and complemented by very fine, silky tannins. This has a smooth texture paired with elegance and tenderness. The finish is beautifully long and complex as well as salivating. A great Bourgueil indeed. Finessed and gorgeous. Pierre bought the Clos in 2005, and the first vintage was 2007.
