Punteggio 97/100 · Da bere 2021-2041, Jeb Dunnuck, Dec 2018

The 2016 Côte Rôtie Côte Blonde is more reserved and slightly backward, with meaty dark fruits, decaying flowers, olive, and game nuances all taking some coaxing. It’s firing on all cylinders on the palate, however, and has an awesome core of fruit, polished, silky tannins, great intensity and depth, and a weightless mouthfeel. Hide this for 4-5 years, and it will knock your socks off over the following two decades.

Full-bodied, yet supple and creamy, the 2016 Cote Rotie La Cote Blonde has an extra dimension to it that's unmatched by Ogier's other cuvées. Complex perfumes of roses, tea leaves and raspberries, incredibly silky tannins and trace notes of flowers and licorice on the finish all mark this as a super wine. It's nearly approachable now, but it should evolve gracefully for two decades or more. Bravo!

Inky ruby. A highly perfumed bouquet displays aromas of dark fruit liqueur, potpourri, smoky minerals and cracked pepper. Palate-staining blackberry and violet pastille flavors are accented by a zesty mineral quality that brings vibrancy and lift. Gains spiciness and sweetness with air, finishing with building minerality and broad, pliant tannins.
