Savoury nose verging on cigarette smoke! Big and rich – really big and fat. Massive alcoholic impact on the palate. A certain bitterness, almost oiliness on the end. But perhaps it will age beautifully?! Should one just cross one’s fingers and wait for this to come right? I can’t believe Engerer was thrilled by this style. Exotic. Chewy finish. I’m giving it the benefit of the doubt. (JR)

Famous estate acquired by the Pinault family in 2011. NB alcohol! Very haunting in a honeysuckle way. Rich on the palate – make that very rich! Alcohol on the finish but you forgive it for the uniqueness of flavour. Compare and contrast with more recent vintages? Sleek texture. Would this be wonderful with lobster? Saline note too. (JR)

Cereal, and a subtle smoky note – tight and opulent at the same time. Ripe fruit with a sense of sweetness too – rich and oak-led at the moment. Introverted but has a real concentration of stone fruit, apricot kernel and marmalade. Needs plenty of time. (AC)

Because of flowering problems total production was 3,000 bottles compared with more than 4,000 in 2018. This was their most concentrated vintage since 2014. Rich and round with an alcohol level of almost 15%. Still quite youthful and more subtle than the Côtes du Rhône but pretty alcoholic! (JR)
