Perfume and sweet plums on the nose. Fine, chiselled tannins with chalky notes, layers of bramble fruit and spice. Coffee followed by sandalwood and biltong spice. Crackling acidity keeps this going and balances really well with the 14.5% alcohol. A long, fine finish – years left in this. (AC)

Deep smudgy garnet. Much more savoury than the Pawn Wine Co’s Jeu de Fin Shiraz Reserve 2012 just tasted but still with lots of dark bramble fruit and an attractive earthy note. The fruit tastes very sweet but there’s better freshness here to balance, except the finish is rather sweet/sour. Tannins still nicely chewy and the whole well balanced. Sip with care. (JH)
Inky ruby. Ripe cherry and blueberry scents are complemented by building licorice, vanilla and mocha nuances. Concentrated and appealingly sweet, showing no rough edges to the sweet black and blue fruit, cola and spicecake flavors. In a plush, open-knit style, delivering impressive finishing punch, velvety tannins and a suave, lingering cherry liqueur quality.
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2013 Nest Egg Shiraz is profoundly scented of blackberry preserves, baked plums and Christmas cake with hints of licorice and smoky bacon. Medium to full-bodied, rich and velvety in the mouth, it packs in the berry preserves and spice box flavors, finishing long and layered.
