The 2018 Röttgen Grosse Lage is very clear, pure, fresh and refined on the deep, intense and herbal/floral nose. Wide, elegant and refined on the palate, this is an enormously complex and seamless Röttgen with a salty, remarkably pure and refined finish that develops easily, with subtly, enormous length and grip and a clear, dry and serious finish. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.

Strawberry, quince, fig and lime combine for a delectably ripe aromatic display and a lusciously rich yet bright palate performance, to which musky peony perfume and a smoky whiff of black tea adds allure. Hints of cardamom and a kiss of slate contribute to a lingering finish that soothes and envelops while also managing to refresh.
Stunning concentration and power to the nose, which is saturated in lemon curd, oyster shell, dried apple rind, lime cordial and dried cloves. Very long on the full-bodied palate with resounding intensity, but focussed, knife-edged acidity that keeps this mineral and taut throughout. Drink now or hold.
A very fine fragrance of fresh green herbs, lemongrass and tea leaves, reflecting fermentation by indigenous yeasts. The palate initially impresses with generous fruit touching on the exotic, but never too sweet, before a truly rocky minerality gets a grip. It settles down with an animating herbal note on the finish. (MS)
