From very old, ungrafted vines, the 2014 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett was picked with botrytis at 87° Oechsle and offers a very fine, clear and intense bouquet with delicate stony and slate-like flavors. This is a super focused and elegant Kabinett with very elegant apricot aromas. Intense, fine, elegant and lush on the palate, this is remarkably good Sonnenuhr in perfect harmony. The finish is so lovely, salty and stimulatingly round and full of finesse. A great Riesling! Highly recommended.

Apple jack, plum distillate and lime peel prickle and penetrate the nostrils, where intimations of nut and apple seed piquancy are also picked up. So it’s not surprising that the palate impression here is gripping and a bit austere. But there is also, thanks to an assist from residual sugar, a subtly sweet sense of yellow plum, quince and fresh apple. The penetrating finish is a tad rustic and almost raucous in its expression of lemon and apple acidity, but it’s certainly bracing and invigorating.
