Bright magenta. Smoke-accented cherry and blackberry aromas are accompanied by suggestions of pungent flowers and smoked meat. Smooth and open-knit, offering lively bitter cherry and dark berry flavors sharpened by a hint of spicy white pepper. Finishes on a gently tannic note, with very good tenacity and a lingering suggestion of gaminess.

60% Grenache, 35% Mourvèdre, 5% Syrah. Tasted blind. Plum, black cherry, fresh acid and finely grained tannins. Smooth, balanced and well made. Slightly stinky reductive character spoils the purity. (RH)
The 2017 Gigondas Les Pigières is a red-fruited effort that offers medium-bodied aromas and flavors of raspberries, strawberries, spice, and garrigue. Based on 60% Grenache, 35% Mourvèdre, and 5% Syrah, it’s lightly textured and charming, with a slightly mid-weight feel. Nevertheless, I suspect the Mourvèdre component will cause this to fill out nicely with a year of bottle age.
A blend of 65% Grenache, 35% Mourvèdre and 5% Syrah, all matured in concrete, the 2017 Gigondas les Pigieres was singing when I tasted it in June. Garrigue-inflected cherries lead the way, followed by a wine that's full-bodied, intense and concentrated but already harmonious, finishing with silky tannins and great length.
