Bright violet. Lively aromas of ripe red berries, lavender and peppery spices, joined by a smoky nuance that builds in the glass. Juicy, focused and energetic, offering vibrant black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors that stretch out and become sweeter with air. Finishes on a floral note, displaying very good thrust and smooth tannins.

Less successful, the 2013 Gigondas Les Dessous des Dentelles is similarly medium-bodied and lightly textured, yet has a green streak, with too much green herbs, basil and peppermint on the nose. It will most likely need to be consumed early in its life.
Dark ruby. Pale rim. Very fresh and invigorating nose even if it doesn’t have that much intensity. Evolved and not desperately ambitious but with attractively spicy notes for medium-term drinking. Friendly structure. Low tannic register. A hint of green. (JR)
