The 2014 Chardonnay Ava Marie (the first where the name is on the front label) has a backward nose at first that does not quite deliver the same expression as the 2013. Light melted wax aromas, less in the way of fruit. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, taut and fresh, fine tension though the 2013 has more verve and class. It will still give several years' drinking pleasure.

Pale, bright gold-tinged yellow. Sexy aromas of orange blossom, ripe peach, spicy oak and honey reminded me of Meursault. A Chardonnay with good size and palate presence, but quite dry owing to its firm minerality and citrus zest flavors. Still a bit lemony and bound-up, this wine needs more time to express itself and expand. Finishes firm and lively.
