NV Johnnie Walker 28 YO Midnight Blend 42.8%

First up is the fifth and final instalment in the John Walker & Sons Private Collection series, the 28 Year Old Midnight Blend. Limited to 3,888 individually numbered decanters, this is less than half the volume of previous releases and at a minimum of 28 years age, you can bet this is older than the previous No Age Statement whiskies in the series. The desirability of this final instalment was summed up by Dave Broom, reviewing for scotchwhisky.com, when he described the Midnight Blend as “a smorgasbord of silky grains and waxy textures" and "a fitting end to a ‘treat’ of a series”. As the name would suggest, Midnight Blend is best enjoyed after dinner by virtue of its opulent and indulgent style:“notes of rich fruits, butterscotch and cream. These meet on the palate with a warm smoky finish and hits of wax and green apples. Serve in a brandy balloon and gently warm in the hand. For a more decadent serve enjoy with a piece of dark chocolate”.
