Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2025-2045, Neal Martin, May 2025

The 1975 Taylor's Vintage Port is understated on the nose compared to the 1970 and 1977, with scents of degraded red fruit, ash, fig and clove, beautifully defined but discreet. The palate is medium bodied with a slightly candied entry, offering blood orange and red fruit, allspice and clove, with just a dab of gingerbread on the back palate. Very cohesive on the finish, this is not a powerful Vintage Port—that is a strength, not a weakness. Lovely.

Pale brick. Smoky, stony and savoury nose, underpinned by some fudgy, dried strawberry. Attractive depth of fruit and a fair tannic backbone. Dark-chocolate and leather finish. Holding up quite well. (TJ)

The 1975 Taylor's Vintage Port is mature in colour, lighter on the nose than either the 1970 or 1977 with wild strawberry, cherry, pencil lead and sawdust. No, it is not complex, but it is clean and fresh. The medium-bodied is more driven by fruit than other vintages and lacks a little structure, yet there is an attractive smooth texture. It is a less intellectual Taylor's Vintage Port ready for drinking. Tasted in the Factory House in Porto for "Taylor's - The Story of a Classic Port House" book.

This house must certainly be the Latour of Portugal. Their ports are remarkably backward yet still impressive when young. Of all the vintage ports, those of Taylor need the longest time to mature and even when fully mature seem to have an inner strength and firmness that keep them going for decades. Their tawnys are also among the very best, though somewhat expensive. The 1975 has turned out richly fruity, supple, and offers delicious drinking for the near future.
