Deep, bright-rimmed ruby. Displays intensely perfumed dark berry, cherry preserve and olive aromas, along with hints of succulent flowers and incense. Sweet and expansive on the palate, offering sappy black raspberry, licorice and spicecake flavors that become livelier on the back half. Plays richness off finesse smoothly and finishes impressively long and sweet, with velvety tannins coming in late.

Overripe fruit with a baked sort of quality to the nose. Better clarity and balance on the palate, with a sweetness of fruit throughout and a soft, supple, tannic feel. Rounded, easy to drink. Perhaps doesn’t deliver everything that the appellation might promise. (RH)
(made with 18 percent new oak) Inky ruby. A highly perfumed bouquet evokes ripe boysenberry, cherry and candied flowers, and a zesty mineral nuance adds complexity. Concentrated yet lively black and blue fruit and floral pastille flavors carry a building suggestion of spicecake. Packs a serious punch but comes off as graceful, finishing with gentle tannins that shape an impressively long, penetrating finish.
