2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Margaret River Reserve

90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Malbec, 5% Petit Verdot. Winemaker Glenn Goodall. Fruit from three vineyards. All Haughton clone on own rootstock. Mostly dry-farmed on free-draining ironstone/gravelly loams. Conventional viticulture. A bove-average rainfall throughout the winter of 2013, then the rainfall ceased almost completely from the end of November through to the end of March providing ideal growing conditions – ‘another excellent season in  Margaret River’. Harvest 1–12 April. Shaded garnet. Just a little angular in the stony mode of Margaret River Cab. But lively and still very fresh. (JR)

The 2014 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is supple, red fruited, spicy and great. The tannins are powdery, fresh and chewy, and these expand the fruit on the palate into a capacious, charming space. They are a highlight and suspend the red fruit on the palate. Interminable. Excellent. It's in the zone, for me. 14% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Malbec. 14 months in French, of which 50% new. Tasted blind. Dark crimson. Warm, ripe with a hint of warm bricks. Glorious! Edgy and complete with great fruit almost covering the fine tannins. Beautifully made. A standout wine. So opulent it could be enjoyed now but will go on and on. Energy and opulence. Sweet and opulent. Not sure where this is from.
