Note di degustazione
The 2015 Iron Syrah comes from vineyards around Malmesbury and has a very fruit-driven bouquet of raspberry coulis , red currant and wild strawberry; touches of tobacco and wet clay emerge with time. The taut, linear palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, crisp acidity and fine precision on an almost Cornas-like finish that grips the mouth. Very promising.

Granite, Schist and Iron cuvées made every year but not bottled every year. Barrel fermented in open-top barrels. 500 litres with hand punchdowns. Cooper comes to put the heads back on. Aged one year in the same barrels and then the second year in 2000-litre foudres. There’s dark fruit here but also a fragrance I associate with northern Rhône Syrah. Tannins are firm and dry and firmer grained than in the straight Syrah 2015, more obviously tannic, a little more savoury overall. More grip. Chewy and bone dry, with a mouth-watering saltiness on the finish. (JH)
