Punteggio 97/100 · Da bere 2024-2040, Erin Larkin, Wine Advocate, Jun 2024

The 2014 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is famously dripping in gold medals, after winning the Jimmy Watson Memorial trophy and a swag of other trophies and golds across Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth and Western Australia wine shows. It's clear why it did so well. Lashings of dark chocolate, cocoa, cassis, dark forest berries, tobacco, tapenade, exotic spice and brine greet the bouquet, and the palate is imbued with wall-to-wall tannin and muscular fruit. This is full bodied, powerfully structured and thrusty, with persistent, consistent fruit for days. Impressive. 14% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

Punteggio 17.5/20 · Da bere 2020-2032, Jancis Robinson MW, Nov 2022

This wine was awarded the Max Schubert Trophy (as it was in 2012 also… and the 2016 won the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy). Julian Langworthy , Australian Winemaker of the Year 2018, had been back in Margaret River for only four years when he made it! A warm vintage. Very deep lustrous crimson. Quite a strong cassis perfume. More lifted than the average Napa Cab but in the same idiom. Lots of freshness and fine tannins. Nicely integrated and quite ethereal. Impressively long. (JR)

Punteggio 18.5/20 · Da bere 2018-2034, Jancis Robinson MW, Nov 2017

100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Houghton mass-selection clone. Crafted from low-yielding original vines on the estate, along with fruit from a single grower also in the Yallingup region of Margaret River. The 2014 harvest in Margaret River was a perfect Cabernet Sauvignon season. Relatively mild daytime temperatures and cool nights prevailed throughout late February allowed premium fruit parcels to be picked in perfect condition in early April. Throughout the fermentation each batch was pumped-over twice daily to gently extract colour, flavour and tannin from the skins. After fermentation, malolactic fermentation in French barriques followed by an 18 month maturation period. Dark crimson. Forest-floor aromas. Wonderfully managed tannins – absolutely glorious, I’d love to see this blind with a classed-growth bordeaux. Completely dry, exceptionally long finish. Fabulous! (JR)
