2016 Bernkasteler Doctor Auslese

A heady nose of overripe Persian melon and quince garlanded in decadently-perfumed lily sets the stage for a lush, creamy, lusciously-ripe palate whose sense of sweetness is happily not exaggerated, but is supportive not only of the wine’s prominent fruitiness but also of marzipan and liquid floral perfume. Missing here are the primary juiciness and stony counterpoint exhibited by the corresponding Spätlese, but the finish lingers caressingly.
