Pale yellow-gold. Suave, mineral-accented citrus and pit fruit aromas, along with suggestions of honeysuckle and green tea. Silky and focused on the palate, offering vibrant Meyer lemon and Anjou pear flavors that deepen slowly on the back half. Finishes long, smooth and precise, revealing a building mineral note and a touch of gingery spiciness.

There are two smoking good Condrieu from Gaillard. The 2016 Condrieu spent 6-8 months in barrel before bottling. Its medium-gold color is followed classic notes of tangerine, apricots, buttered pineapple and brioche. Textured, nicely balanced and lively, drink it over the coming couple of years. Located in the northern part of Saint Joseph, this family-run estate has produced a bevy of high quality, noteworthy wines in both 2016 and 2015. Despite seeing plenty of new oak, I nevertheless find a very traditional style in the wines from Gaillard.
Superb openness to the nose – talcum powder, apricot juice, peach skin. Great definition and punch here, with lovely creamy persistence on the finish and enough acid to give structure to the generous flesh. (RH)
