Limpid gold. Powerful, mineral-accented poached pear, honeydew melon, white peach and violet aromas show excellent focus and vivacity. Displays an impressive blend of depth and energy, offering concentrated orchard and pit fruit, honey and candied ginger flavors that are complemented by a subtle chamomile quality. Finishes very long, broad and subtly sweet, leaving vibrant floral and mineral notes behind.

The 2016 Condrieu L'Octroi is more exotic, with buttered lime, orange peel and honeycomb aromas and flavors, medium-bodied richness, bright acidity and a clean, mineral-laced style, it too is impressive, and I suspect will keep even longer. Located in the northern part of Saint Joseph, this family-run estate has produced a bevy of high quality, noteworthy wines in both 2016 and 2015. Despite seeing plenty of new oak, I nevertheless find a very traditional style in the wines from Gaillard.
