Nose: the elegant, slightly erotic and truly exotic fruit means one thing only… Taste: which happens to be confirmed by the even more exotic fruity delivery: great age! The mid ground is both firm with the oak also evident with the butterscotch theme, and soft – the malt still extant having laid down a yielding carpet. A little mocha and praline seep into the mix; but the fruits just keep on giving. Finish: not a hint of bitterness, no stewed pencils of exhausted oak. Just a slow re-run of all spices… Balance: the difference between old oak and the newer stuff is brilliantly displayed here. Make no mistake: this is a masterpiece.

Tomatin

Founded in 1897, Highland distillery Tomatin has swelled and shrunk during subsequent whisky booms and busts. Its approachable, light, unpeated style was so popular in blends that Tomatin became the largest malt distillery in Scotland.
