Ripe pear and cherry are garlanded in honeysuckle on a lovely nose and crunchy, refreshing yet satin-textured palate, where pear skin and cherry pit accents offer tingling, piquant invigoration. Smoky ore-like, stony and saline inflections lend the buoyant, lingering finish impressive mineral complexity for an “entry-level” bottling. (Although this Riesling is decidedly Saar-typical, around 20 percent of the cuvée now comes from the Mosel, principally Mehring.)

The 2015 Riesling Schiefer offers a ripe and piquant fruit with flinty flavors. This is a lean, straight, fresh and piquant, almost steely dry Riesling. It has grip and no charm, but a lot of challenges. I'd keep it in the cellar for 2-3 years, but it should still be good in ten years.
A dry Riesling from the slate which takes no prisoners with its uncompromising combination of mineral and herbaceous notes. Very compact, it makes no attempt at flattery with fruit and shows some raw crunchy edges. The Schiefer certainly makes the mouth water! (MS)
RS 5 g/l, maybe 6-7 g/l TA . Very cool and dry. Maybe a tad too demanding for export. But there's a hint of dried spices about it; could it work with Asian cuisine? A bit mousy at the end. (JR)
