Earthy, stony, fresh and herbal, the wine pops with sweet, red berries, pepper and spice. Luscious, elegant and already charming, you can drink this young, or give it a decade for secondary nuances. This is the final vintage for the Classique. While the parcels will stay the same, the name was changed starting with the 2016 vintage to Les Schistes to coordinate with the terroir..

Some bold, rich and chewy fruit here. The tannins are assertive and there’s a core of dark fruit, swathed in dark-spice and mineral complexity. A blend of three parcels. Needs some time. Try in 2023.
Bright violet. Powerful cherry, dark berry and olive scents are complemented by intense mineral and spice accents. Deep-pitched black currant, bitter cherry and spicecake flavors show an appealing blend of power and finesse, and a floral pastille flourish builds in the background. Shows impressive energy and dark fruit punch on the youthfully tannic finish, which leaves behind notes of candied flowers and cracked pepper.
The 2015 Cote Rotie Classique is a bit chewy and tough but offers some classic Côte Rôtie notes of espresso, black olive and road tar. Leather and cassis round out the array of flavors in this medium to full-bodied effort that needs a few years to shed its appreciable tannin load.
