White peach, pear and cherry are strewn with iris and lily-of-the-valley for an even more ravishing variation on the alluring aromatics of the corresponding “Riesling Schiefer.” The palate impression here is flatteringly silken yet animatedly juicy and invigoratingly tinged with tingling pear skin – tender and exhibiting a levity that borders on weightlessness. The long finish caresses even as it stimulates the salivary glands. For now, this doesn’t display the myriad mineral nuances of the “Schiefer” bottling, but such additional complexity may emerge with time in bottle – and there need be no hurry in consuming this beauty.

The 2015 Saar Riesling is deep and complex on the nose, provided with flinty aromas spicing the ripe and well-concentrated fruit aromas. The wine is full-bodied, with a ripe and concentrated fruit, and a juicy roundness. This is an elegant, well-structured and powerful Riesling with a firm grip. It needs some years to be become more round and finessed, though.
A little more accommodating than the Schiefer at this early stage, the Saar Riesling exhibits fresh green fruit and a hint of clove on the nose. Compact and taut on the palate, it does show mineral and herbaceous components, but supplements the early austerity with a subtle composition of pears and spice. (MS)
This is his largest production wine from vines more than 30 years old. Very charming nose and great minerally balance. Pungent and full of character. Dry end. (JR)
