Close to the windmill. Always tight when young. 2 ha. Destemmed – no extra freshness needed and it might add greenness. Pink granite/sand and very little soil. Always shows freshness. Lots of millerandage (small berries in the bunch). Deep crimson. A light smoky note of reduction (low SO2 and not much racking). Fabulous dry texture, with graphite, mineral texture. Not fruity or powerful but incredibly refined. ‘Tasted more in the throat than in the mouth’, says Liger-Belair and I think I agree. Very structured and dry and elegant. Peppery more in texture than in flavour. Fine granular texture. All about texture at the moment. Deliciously dry and currently rather closed. (JH)

The 2013 Moulin-à-Vent La Roche was tighter on the nose that the 2013 Vieilles Vignes, but I think ultimately it will have more fruit concentration with those powerful bilberry and boysenberry scents intact. The palate is medium-bodied with a saline entry, a light grip to the tannin and a chalky, rather stern finish. It needs to just lighten up a tad, but there is still great potential locked into Thibault Liger-Belair's Beaujolais.

The 2013 Moulin-à-Vent “La Roche” was completely de-stemmed and underwent a 3-week cuvaison. It has a broody, blackcurrant and bilberry-scented nose that feels a little reduced and would probably benefit from decanting. The palate is grippy and chewy, with clean black cherry and boysenberry fruit. The acidity is well judged, a flavor-packed Moulin-à-Vent that packs a delicate punch.
