Punteggio 94/100 · FINE+RARE

Rich, ripe fruit, with a minerality cutting through, gentle smokiness and rapier-like acidity. Floral, green apple, white peach, full body and a virtually never-ending finish. Elegant and refreshing with a frisson of sweetness on the palate. May 2016, F+R

Ten grams of acidity nicely check 46 grams of residual sugar, yet this bottling registers a mere 7.5 percent alcohol, having been licked at a very modest 81 Oechsle. Texturally refined and subtly creamy, it also displays bright juiciness of lemon and apple. Mineral salts and a hint of iodine convey a mouthwatering hint of lobster shell reduction to the lingering finish.

From roughly 90-year-old vines, the 2015 Riesling Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett is super clear and flinty on the bright and very precise nose. This is a super lush and salty Riesling with good intensity, just 7.5% alcohol and 45 grams of residual sugar. The finish is very clear, pure and stimulatingly salty. This is another picture book Kabinett and the one with probably the most famous name.

Bursting with classic petrol, lime and slate aroma. Honey and something ferrous too. Pinpoint balance and refreshment, plenty of flavour satisfaction. Fairly short finish, and unusually developed for such a young wine – but it delivers plenty of classic Mosel Riesling character. (RH)
