2014 Moulin a Vent Vieilles Vignes

Bright magenta. Exotic, highly perfumed aromas of ripe dark berries, blood orange, potpourri and spicecake, given urgency by a mineral flourish. Juicy and sharply focused, offering concentrated black raspberry, cherry compote and violet pastille flavors and a touch of allspice on the back half. Finishes smooth, sweet and very long, with sneaky tannins adding structure and gentle grip to the wine's plush fruit.

15% new oak – according to Thibault Liger-Belair, Gamay needs time to develop but not as much oxygenation as Pinot, hence not much new oak. This is a barrel sample – won’t be bottled until May 2016.  Bright cherry red. Dark-red peppery fruit, sweet red cherries, with plenty of spice and a rocky dark note. Delicious purity of fruit, all tight and coiled up, with terrific acidity and really fine tannins, though at the moment they are compact. (JH)

Deep purplish crimson. Much deeper colour than his Bourgogne! Bit reduced. Harsh and raw. (JR)
