Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2015-2025, Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, Dec 2015

Coming from the schist soils located in the northern portion of the appellation, the 2013 Côte Rôtie L’Eglantine is 100% destemmed Syrah that was vinified all in concrete tanks and aged in older oak. It offers complex notes of wild herbs, violets, wood smoke and dark raspberry fruit. Medium-bodied, elegant and silky on the palate, with high quality tannin, enjoy this classy Côte Rôtie over the coming decade.

(made from roughly equal amounts of fruit from the Côte-Blonde and the Côte-Brune): Deep ruby. Vibrant mineral- and spice-laced dark berry and floral pastille scents are complemented by licorice and cola. Lithe and sharply focused on the palate, offering dried strawberry and cherry flavors that put on weight and gain spiciness with air. Dry, focused and lively on the finish, nicely framed by dusty tannins and brightened by a zesty white pepper note.

Cask sample. Élevage in oak barrels. Mid ruby crimson. Quite severe, brutal extraction. Then lots of juice on the palate. This is youthful and not one of the subtlest but with its warmth and black pepper character it should eventually give pleasure. Quite marked sinewy tannins. A little sour on the finish at the moment.
