The 2014 Côtes du Rhône is solid in this is charming, easy going vintage for the southern Rhône. Made from 50% Syrah, 40% Grenache and 10% Mourvèdre, it gives up lots of smoky dark fruits, and peppery herbs in a plump, delicious, well-made style. Enjoy it over the coming 3-5 years.

50% Syrah, 40% Grenache and 10% Mourvèdre. Gorgeous tobacco, black pepper, black cherry and an attractive dash of herbal complexity too. Still-youthful fruit on the palate, yet already showing attractive evolution. As ever, this is surely one of the most reliable large-scale wines in existence. Firm tannin with much more refreshing acid than most Côtes du Rhônes thanks to the high Syrah element. (RH)
The 2014 Cotes du Rhone is the current release. It’s a spicy, peppery, medium-bodied version of this classic, with some silky cherry fruit and a crisp finish.
You've got to hand it to them, this is delicious: classic Syrah-based red with violet, black pepper and cherry. Light tannins, perfectly balanced structure. Vibrant and fresh and generous. Superbly executed. (RH)
